In a clinical trial of 418 patients who had unresectable or metastatic melanoma and were BRAF negative, 210 patients were treated with OPDIVO and 208 with chemotherapy (dacarbazine). OPDIVO was shown to reduce the risk of dying by 58% compared to chemotherapy (dacarbazine). More than half the OPDIVO patients were alive at 15 months, while half the chemotherapy (dacarbazine) patients were alive at 10.8 months. OPDIVO will not work for every patient. Individual results may vary.
OPDIVO® (nivolumab)—proven to significantly
increase the chance of living longer compared to
chemotherapy (dacarbazine) in a clinical trial
Half of the chemotherapy (dacarbazine) patients were alive at 10.8 months. More than half the OPDIVO patients were still alive at 15 months. OPDIVO will not work for every patient. Individual results may vary.
About the OPDIVO trial
In the clinical trial of 418 patients who had unresectable or metastatic melanoma that were previously untreated and were BRAF negative (wild type), 210 patients were treated with OPDIVO, while 208 were treated with chemotherapy (dacarbazine).
What is OPDIVO?
OPDIVO is a medicine used alone to treat adult patients with advanced melanoma and a normal BRAF gene (wild-type).
OPDIVO is not approved for patients less than 18 years of age.
OPDIVO is a PD-1 (programmed death receptor-1) immunotherapy
OPDIVO is an immunotherapy, a type of medicine that works with your immune
system. The field of immuno-oncology is helping doctors and scientists
understand how immunotherapies like OPDIVO may help the immune system
to fight cancer.
Because OPDIVO works with your immune system, it can cause your immune
system to attack normal organs and tissues in many areas of your body and
can affect how they work. These problems may become serious and lead to
death and may happen at any time during treatment or after treatment
